they arent and since I had another these over sized cups and bearing set ups do exist on larger mid school pro bikes 20211212_121818.jpg uploading. although that was the issue for everyone that said it's a normal cup. see how goes I may replace with a fsa and cups. if I didnt have this flat larger runner I would have been fked and it still isnt proper yet is solid. then place the stock giant cap on and a neck ring and tigtend it all down hella and it seems to work well. I put it in and also found a piece of plastic that fit in from another set up. no idea where I got it yet it had same size larger bearing ring also to match up. i looked through my parts again and some how found a flat head set disk that was larger and that ran on the rings nicely. so I would have had to pop out and replace both cups to run normal ahead set and fork.all this because I was missing the stock compression bearing runner disk up top and this larger cup seemed to have two pieces instead of one piece like an ahead set. also the firk on this bike runs a bottom ring that is larger also and stock on the fork. the fork on this giant was a bit oversize also and I could barely get a 1 and 1/8th red line neck on it and all my other necks were just to tight. I have many ahead sets from the 90s and all of them run a smaller bearing and cup for 1 and 1/8th fork. I thought the bearing ring size was just a thing giant bikes did and I needed to switch the cups or find the correct size top pressure insert bearing runner disk for this larger size cup and bearing. looks like the cups on this 1996 mosh xl are indeed larger than a normal 1 and 1/8th headset bearing ring and accomodate a larger bearing ring than say a 96 dyno maybe or a mach one although the insert part of the cup that goes into the frame is the same size as a normal 1 and 1/8th head tube making it possible to switch to a normal cup and smaller bearing ring. So update on this issue hopefully helps somone. so make me wonder will normal mid cups even fit in if I replace them yes the bike has a 1 and 1/8th head tube just bigger cups than standard mid schools. prob just have to replace it cups and all if no one can tell me. I'd rather know if mosh used a bigger cup size though and get this specific bigger runner for this bigger mosh cap. now I can knock the cups out and put in a fa set of cups like guy showed me up there in the photo. the cups just make the whole set up bigger. so with these cups and forks this bikes cups weather they are stock or somone put them on the frame are larger than a standard 1 and 1/8th ahead set. so I saw oh the cups and bearings in this 1996 mosh are actually a little bigger than a normal head set and the forks even have a bigger runner on them. not cups just the head set i noticed that the disk in the head set or top of head set runs inside the bearings in cup siezing it all. well that part is missing and when I try to use a regular 1 and 18th head set from other mids. that cap is extra high and there is a secondary piece that fits in there that is the circular coin bearing runner and plastic piece that puts pressure down onto the top bearings. you see how there is cups and then a cap on the head tube in photo. Yea man I'll take it apart yet let me explain carfully.
